Founders
LIGHT OF AFRICA FOUNDERS
BUTCH AND JANET BERNER.
N. “Butch” and Janet Berner founded Light of Africa January 2003. They have served on the mission field in Zambia since 1996. Previous to Light of Africa, they trained national pastors to take up the work of church planting and a primary school they established. After much prayer Butch opened a Bible School and reading library for local pastors and church leaders. Janet trains those who work as care-givers for orphanages and those working with children in education. Leadership skills, Biblical Studies, Children’s Ministry and life skills are all part of the course-work they offer at no to nominal costs.
Butch received his M.A. from Alliance Theological Seminary, Nyack, N.Y.
When asked what the best part of his day is? "Hands down it would be teaching my students. They are all awesome and when you see them grasp a truth from God, there is nothing that can surpass that!"
Janet holds her M.Ed. from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas. Both Butch and Janet worked in education prior to moving to Africa.
Janet shares, "I love playing with children, learning and teaching the Gospel, encouraging others and watching Jane Austen movies. I use my free time to do searches on the web and to play Boggle. I miss my family and friends the most when in Africa and my new family and friends when I am in the USA. The best part of my day is being able to share the Good News with others."
Presently, they live in Livingstone, Zambia. Butch and Janet celebrate their 20th anniversary 15 December 2010.
